Online Presentation, Overview of SmarterMeasure

What:  Online Presentation, Overview of SmarterMeasure
When: Thursday, November 10th, One PM Pacific
For Whom: Anyone is welcome – Intended audience is faculty members and administrators

Part of a weekly series of presentations and live office hours offered by the Washington State eLearning Community, the presenter of this workshop, Marie Rustemeyer of Spokane Community College, will give an overview of this tool and describe her institution’s plan to pilot it in the coming fall.

Overview of SmarterMeasure -- SmarterMeasure is an assessment that uses a sequence of activities and questions to identify student readiness for online learning OR learning in a technology rich course. Because student success is contingent on multiple variables, SmarterMeasure is not a predictive tool but a diagnostic tool to identify students who are at-risk of not doing well due to measured sets of traits, skills and knowledge.

Spokane Community College is piloting SmarterMeasure during fall quarter.  It is not and will not be recommended as a gatekeeper or ‘make or break’ test to determine if a student can take an online course or not. It is intended to be used as a diagnostic tool to make students aware of their strengths and skills and provide resources for support to help students be successful.
